As an artist, I have always struggled with my

visual identity. I’ve never felt like I have one

particular style. The truth is, I’m far too

easily bored to stick to a single way of

painting, and I prefer to let the subject

matter dictate how it is painted. This piece

was inspired by a photo I took in Vietnam

and is an exploration of the more graphic

side of how I like to work. I am heavily

influenced by colour combinations, and often

I’ll use colour as a starting point rather than

the subject itself. This piece is an example of

that—the palette came first, and the subject

was chosen to complement the colours I
