Hackney Downs is the first place outside of my

hometown of St Albans that has truly felt like

home. My partner and I have filled our little

flat with plants and trinkets—a mishmash

collaboration of our styles and past treasures. I

painted this from a photo I took one morning

of us in our bedroom mirror, as he watered the

plants. The scene features an old upside-down

lightbox we use as a lamp, a tobacco tin, and

a watering can that help keep our many plants

alive. As we’ve merged our worlds together

within our four walls, I’ve tried to capture that

feeling by using a mixture of mediums and

styles in this piece.
