Humming Birds and Cheese Plants

I’ve always loved the artist Frida Kahlo, and

I’ve had a photograph of her on my wall for

years — Frida on White Bench, taken in 1939

by Nickolas Muray. In my painting, I focused

purely on the background of that photo,

recreating it in my own way, almost like a

wallpaper. This piece took a month to complete,

with five of my signature hummingbirds added

— each one taking a full day to paint.
